Met Hotel

La Paz, Bolivia - Coming Soon!

The Met Hotel is a multifaceted experience- It is a welcome home, it is a cool place to hangout, it is the perfect place for a quick meeting, and it is a place to get stuff done. It does this through good layout, ample power, and using modern design with a nod to the local past. The materials are simple, but warm and tactile.

The space draws inspiration from the local terrain and culture. The layered concrete used for the columns and feature lobby wall is inspired by the ruins of PumaPunku with its perfectly cut geometric stones. While the design is largely modern, these historically significant patterns provide underlying textures that gives a sense of place.

The heart of Met Hotel is the continuous counter and brass gantry that wraps around the central core of the space. It is the ‘warm welcome’ reception desk, your breakfast buffet, the go-to place for a cocktail. It is the beacon for hospitality.

The restaurant and bar are the perfect 3 meal restaurant. It feels great, vivid, and lively in the mornings, and it seamlessly transitions into a warmly lit provocative space at night. Decorated with local contemporary artwork, greenery, and custom lighting to emphasize textures and forms.

The guest-rooms at Met Hotel are simple, light, and airy - providing a clean yet still cozy space to unwind, rest, and get things done. With pale woods and muted hints of color throughout. The furniture is fresh and modern, comfortable, and effortless. Accent décor pieces like the pillows celebrate the rich weavings from Sucre and the bedroom rug patterns take inspiration from local historic textiles from Tiwanaku bringing back a bit of history into the rooms.

The Spa, Pool, and Gym are the jewel box that lives at the base of the hotel. These graceful spaces are housed in the industrial concrete shell of the building; but are given a warm, modern, and inviting feel with the introduction of the same warm woods and natural materials that make up the rest of the hotel.

While these spaces are all subterranean - it does not feel this way by using bright materials, skylights, and specific lighting techniques.

The core of the space is the planted courtyard that allows natural light and plant life into the pool and gym. This is highlighted by the feature wall that creates the backdrop of the pool and continues into the courtyard creating a pop of color and brightness for these spaces. The pool is dramatic - framed by warm wooden slats and limestone - anchored with green tiles
and reminiscing nature itself.
